Behest Expands Its Enterprise AI Control Plane with Cost-Aware Routing and Endpoint Visibility
Following the August release of its Cost-Aware Router, Behest is releasing Behest Radar this month to uncover AI activity that never reaches a centralized gateway.
CAMPBELL, Calif., September 2026 — Behest today announced the continued expansion of its enterprise AI control plane with two new capabilities designed to help organizations see, control, govern, and optimize AI usage across production workloads and employee devices.
In August, Behest released its Cost-Aware Router, which allows enterprises to route eligible AI workloads to lower-cost models based on policy, model capability, and business requirements. This month, Behest is releasing Behest Radar, an open-source, on-device tool that provides visibility into AI services used directly from employee and developer machines.
Together, the two releases address a growing problem for enterprises: AI usage no longer happens in one place.
Production applications and agents call models through APIs, while developers and employees use coding assistants, desktop applications, command-line tools, and other AI services that may bypass centralized infrastructure entirely. Traditional AI gateways can only govern the traffic that passes through them.
Behest is extending the control plane to cover both sides of enterprise AI.
Cost-Aware Routing for Production AI
The Behest Cost-Aware Router operates directly in the AI request path. It evaluates eligible workloads and routes them according to enterprise-defined policies, including cost, model capability, and approved provider requirements.
Organizations can use lower-cost models where appropriate without rewriting application logic or giving up centralized governance.
Cost-aware routing works alongside the broader Behest control plane, which provides request-level usage visibility, cost attribution, enforceable budgets, model access policies, PII protection, prompt-injection defense, and audit trails.
This gives engineering, finance, IT, and security teams a shared control layer for production AI traffic across providers, models, applications, teams, and agents.
Behest Radar Reveals AI Outside the Gateway
Behest Radar extends visibility to the endpoint.
Radar is an on-device shadow AI discovery tool for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It identifies supported AI services used directly from a machine and estimates their cost where local usage information is available.
Radar can provide visibility into activity from coding assistants, desktop AI applications, CLI tools, and other services that may never pass through an enterprise AI gateway.
The first release runs entirely on the individual device. It requires no cloud account and sends no telemetry to Behest. Radar will be released as open-source software, giving users and enterprises the ability to inspect how it works and keep their data local.
